The 2025 Met Gala Has a Dress Code—And It’s Personal ! Everything to Know About the 2025 Met Gala: Theme, Hosts, and More
Each year, the Met Gala transforms the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art into the most glamorous runway on earth—and in 2025, it’s getting personal.
This year’s official theme? "Veils of Identity."
But it's the dress code that’s turning heads: “Personal Mythology.”
Khushboo stuns at the 2025 Met Gala, embodying the theme “Veils of Identity” with a look that feels both mythical and deeply personal.
Her sculptural black gown, accented with radiant gold wings, evokes the image of a celestial guardian—part goddess, part warrior. The gleaming armor-like embellishments speak to self-protection and power, while the high-slit silhouette reveals vulnerability beneath the strength. It's more than couture—it’s a personal mythology rendered in gold.
Khushboo doesn't just dress for the Met Gala—she becomes the myth.
What does that mean?
Unlike past galas that focused on time periods (Gilded Glamour), designers (Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty), or cultural movements (Camp: Notes on Fashion), 2025’s dress code is a direct challenge to the attendees:
“Show us who you are—beneath the glam, beyond the gaze.”
Think:
Couture shaped by childhood stories
Accessories symbolizing ancestry
Outfits encoded with personal legends, spiritual symbols, or emotional turning points
Fashion as autobiography
This year’s Met won’t just be about what you wear, but why.
Expect the Unexpected
The 2025 guest list is rumored to be even more curated—with editors, performers, and artists who’ve made their mark by bending identity into art. Here’s what we’re expecting:
Veiled capes hiding secret messages
Customized embroidery featuring poetry, tattoos, family crests
AI-designed pieces trained on an attendee’s birth chart or journals
Jewelry passed through generations, reinterpreted through a high-fashion lens
Designers from Iris van Herpen to Daniel Roseberry are rumored to be exploring "ancestral silhouettes meets futuristic tailoring."

Fashion Meets Soul
What’s exciting about “Personal Mythology” is how it rejects the typical red carpet formula. No one can simply "nail the theme" with a pretty dress. This year’s looks will be storytelling in silk, memory woven into mesh.
And for the viewer? It invites us to ask: What would we wear if we could only express who we are—not what we’re expected to be?
So, what’s your personal mythology?
Would you wear your mother’s sari reimagined in tulle? A suit stitched with the constellations of the night you were born? A gown inspired by the book that saved your life?
This year, the Met isn’t just fashion—it’s a mirror.
And it’s asking everyone to look deeper.

On Wednesday, October 9, the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Drawing inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the exhibition is organized into 12 sections, each representing a characteristic that defines dandy style: Ownership, Presence, Distinction, Disguise, Freedom, Champion, Respectability, Jook (defined in Zora Neale Hurston’s “Characteristics of Negro Expression”—an important reference for the exhibiton—as a space for dancing, drinking, and other leisure activities), Heritage, Beauty, Cool, and Cosmopolitanism.

What happens at the Met Gala?
That’s kept largely under wraps; guests must abide by a no-phone (and, therefore, no social media) policy once they’ve entered the museum. But the run-of-show involves cocktails, dinner—overseen this year by chef Kwame Onwuachi, of the restaurants Tatiana in Lincoln Center and Dōgon in Washington, DC—and a high-profile performer (or two). Attendees also always have a moment to explore the exhibition.
